Kabaddi World Cup (Regular Form)
The Kabaddi World Cup (standard indoor format) is one of the most awaited international tournaments of this game that is held under the patronage of the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF). It started with men in the year 2004 and followed up with a women’s version in the year 2012. Although the last World Cup that was organised under the IKF was in 2016 (men) and 2012 (women), there has been a revived form under World Kabaddi in March 2025, which was the first time in England and outside of Asia.
The 2025 version was held in March 1723 in the West Midlands (Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry, and Walsall). Men and women faced off in a round robin and the knockout style, with six teams each. The men’s and women’s titles were won by India, with England coming second. The live broadcast of the matches, the presence of a huge number of supporters, and more than 60 matches were a breakthrough in the global expansion of kabaddi.
Asian Kabaddi Championship
Asian Kabaddi Championship is a delightful event to witness for fans tracking the continental rivalries. It is held under the organization of the Asian Kabaddi Federation, the men’s since 1980 and the ladies’ since 2005. As of 2025, India has won twice as many men’s titles as 8 (last in South Korea in 2023) and twice as many women’s titles as five. Filled with moments of fierce contest, particularly India vs Iran, this championship helps to show the emerging talents as well as continental pride.
Kabaddi Masters/Dubai Kabaddi Masters
The Kabaddi Masters season began in 2018 and may occasionally be played in Dubai as the Dubai Masters unites the top national teams of various continents. The first edition involved India, Pakistan, Iran, Kenya, South Korea, Argentina, the USA, among others, taking part in a round robin knockout series. India took the title with Iran as their opponents in the final. Even though follow-up editions were delayed, it is still an important event that presents the world with the best talent in this game.
Bangabandhu Cup (Bangladesh)
Since 2021, the Bangabandhu Cup has been held in Bangladesh; it is the first international tournament in which Asian, African, and European teams participate, though Asian teams are dominant. Twelve countries participated in the 2024 version, with Bangladesh, Nepal, Kenya, Poland, and Argentina being among them. Bangladesh dominated early editions, but Kenya and other countries offered good matches against them. This is a testimony to the increased presence of kabaddi in non-traditional areas of strength.
